I’m Trina Swanson.
I grew up in a working-class family in Hermantown. My mother was a nurse. My father worked in construction and later at the paper mill. I quickly learned that unions strengthen our middle class.
I am running for Congress in MN-08 because I believe honest work should buy you a life with dignity, not constant insecurity and struggle. Government should be the place where we come together to solve our problems, and both parts matter – solving problems and coming together.
It is time for a Representative that shows up, engages with all Minnesotans, and goes to work for the people that live here.
It is time to put community over politics.
A LIFETIME OF SERVICE
For the last 25 years, I have dedicated my life to working for the American people. I was honored to represent the U.S. Government at posts in Minnesota, Washington, D.C., Germany, and Kenya.
I recently retired as the Director of International Operations for U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) after almost 18 years of service. Regardless of which party was in power, I worked tirelessly to ensure the correct immigration benefits were granted, in accordance with the law, to those who qualified, while protecting our immigration system by stopping sex traffickers, criminals, and terrorists from entering our great country.
We upheld the values that make America a beacon of light—protecting the persecuted, supporting those who want to work hard, and strengthening the Nation we all love.
I spent my career making government work. We found solutions amongst diverse opinions and positions. I’m running to bring that experience home and put it to work for Minnesota.
